This week focuses on composition as a storytelling tool. Students learn how to arrange shapes, figures, space, and focal points to create clearer emotional impact.Week 3 - Rendering Brief and Layer Structure
Students study rendering strategy and digital layer organisation. The focus is on building a clean, manageable painting process that supports both technical control and creative exploration.Week 4 - Composition and Types of Contrast
This week explores different types of contrast, including value, shape, colour, scale, edge, and storytelling contrast. Students learn how contrast can guide the viewer’s eye and strengthen the message of an image.Week 5 - Form and Material Indication
Students learn how to suggest form and material without over-rendering. This week focuses on communicating surface quality, structure, and believable objects through efficient painting decisions.Week 6 - Suggestion and Brushwork Resolution
This week focuses on brushwork, simplification, and visual suggestion. Students learn when to define information clearly and when to leave areas loose, expressive, or implied.Week 7 - Value Grouping and Shape Carving
Students study how value grouping and shape carving can improve readability, design, and emotional clarity. This week helps artists create stronger images by controlling large value shapes before adding details.Week 8 - Final Demo and Q&A
The course concludes with a final demonstration and Q&A session. Students review the key ideas from the course and learn how to bring their narrative illustration process together in a more complete and confident way.Requirements

Course Format
This is an 8-week live course with weekly 4-hour sessions. Each class combines lectures, demonstrations, discussion, and feedback.Students may choose a feedback tier to receive critiques on their work, or a spectate option for access to recordings without homework feedback. Recordings are provided after each class, allowing students to revisit the material at their own pace.
