What You’ll Learn
Learn how to build a complete real-time visual effects sequence using Houdini and Unreal Engine 4.Throughout the course, you’ll create a cinematic space scene in which a station faces an incoming asteroid. To prevent the collision, the station launches a missile that strikes and shatters the asteroid in a dramatic explosion.
You’ll explore the full VFX pipeline—from procedural asset creation and destruction simulations in Houdini to animation, particles, lighting, sequencing, and final rendering in UE4.
A major focus of the course is proceduralism and reusability. You’ll build customizable rocket and asteroid assets that can be adapted for different scenes and future projects. You’ll also learn how to balance visual quality with the performance limitations commonly encountered in professional production.
By the End of the Course, You’ll Be Able To:
- Create a high-quality VFX sequence featuring a missile striking and destroying an asteroid
- Build reusable procedural assets in Houdini
- Transfer meshes, animations, simulations, and effects from Houdini to UE4
- Understand the role of procedural workflows in VFX production
- Identify and address common real-time performance constraints
- Approach future VFX projects with greater confidence and technical ability
